AT A GLANCE:
Name: Cesar Alfredo Tzun Ixcoy
Impresario Since: May, 2019
Project: Escuela Instituto Nacional Paxmaramac
Location: Patalup, 36km from Momostenango
The village of Patulup is located 36 km from Momostenango. They have been struggling with education for many years now. The school was built 2004 and in 2005 operated with 30 students from five communities; Choqui, Chuinajtajuyub, Nimtzituj, Paxmaramac, and Patulup. However, within the same year the school closed because there weren’t enough enrolled students (due to high tuition). The school stayed half completed and closed for 12 years, eventually the community took over the property.
In 2017, requests were made to the Ministry of Education for the legalization and authorization for the institute. Today, it is now officially licensed and in operation with three full time teachers and 28 students.
The director approached our field workers and after a few meetings with him and the parent’s committee we decided they were suited as a new impresario. They have created momentum for the school and hopefully we can keep in rolling. There are many needs such as: doors and windows, a concrete court for basketball and soccer, improved bathrooms, and computers.
NEWS AND UPDATES:
Due to the lack of windows and doors in the winter season, rain and sun penetrate the classrooms and damage the few pieces of furniture and disrupt classes.
We are currently fundraising and looking for donors to outfit the three classrooms with doors and windows.
What We Need:
We are looking for help to fund windows and doors for the school! See the form down below to get more involved.
